A Hong Meigui caving club expedition went to Chongqing Municipality (formerly part of Sichuan Province). This is an area along the middle of the Yangtze river which contains a variety of vertical wet caves, river passages, horizontal and fossil systems. Pictures and some information on the spring 2002 expedition to Hong Chi Ba, Long Tang and Jiang Kou can be found at: Hong Meigui 2002 |
| In Xin Long county, Chongqing Municipality the primarily objective was to link the Great Crack, 'Di Feng', with the Great Doline, 'Xio Zhai Tien Keng'. In August 2002 a team led by Andy Eavis went to Xin Long to film an attempt at making the connection. In the event water levels were far too high to attempt it. Previous expeditions had also been thwarted by raging waterfalls and rapids, cold water, poisonous snakes, exhaustion from the scale of the vertical climbing, illness, logistical problems and sometimes sheer intimidation! |

Despite the failure to make the connection some interesting caves were found in the surrounding area. Four members of the team later left Xin Long and travelled to Tian Xing. There they continued to explore Qi Keng Dong, which is now the deepest cave in China. Information about this can be found at: A report is being prepared on the caves of the Xin Long Area to include information by work from the French teams. Latest information on the Tian Xing area can be found on the Hong Mei Gui Caving Club web site: Tian Xing and Tian Xing Expedition 2003 August/September China Diary 2002 |

In one of the caves they visited in 2000, a Chinese explorer was washed away and drowned.
The Yorkshire Ramblers and the Wolverhampton Caving Club web site Guangxi Caves 2000 contains details of their preparations. In March/ April 2002 an international team with members from the UK, China, Tasmania, France and Switzerland travelled to Leye County. This followed the two previous trips in October 2000 and then March/ April 2001. It was organised between Leye County officials, Guilin Karst Institute and The China Caves Project Expedition, led by Andy Eavis. Galleries of pictures and expedition diary can be found on the website: The Hidden River Expedition Details of what the Hong Meigui cavers have been doing in Guangxi and other areas can be found at: |
