Hello everybody. As you all have probably figured by now, this site is now defunct. As many of you are well aware, we have been extremely dissatisfied with everything about the show since the end of season 1. (We still miss Kevin (Boone) very much.) Once upon a time, we considered sticking it through, and a few of you know that we put up a really strong fight that actually reached within the ranks of Tribune, but obviously it was not enough to produce positive results. And after being burned so many times before by poor post-Roddenberry incarnations, we have developed a weak heart and stomach. So, with the rumors of most of the original cast either leaving or having significantly reduced roles, we see this as an opportune time to officially close our doors as well.

If you've missed out on our feelings of the deterioration of EFC, we recommend you check out EFC and the Quest for the Holy Repository which is a Monty Python spoof of a bad (but now typical) EFC episode, and our article Convictions, which is a mirco-analysis of what's wrong with the series in terms of Gene Roddenberry's vision. It also includes other interesting asides on the Metaphysics of Personal Identity and the Real Science behind Quantum Teleportation. We were planning to do a macro-analysis to complement this article, but we have been unable to tolerate watching further episodes. You might also revisit our feature articles section which now serves as an interesting contrast of what the show used to be. You might also find it interesting that some of the early articles actually warned or predicted the very things that destroyed the series.

Our predictions? We predict that the 4th season of EFC will be its last. EFC's ratings continue to sag, and are much lower than season 1's. In addition, the expense to produce the show continues to rise, thus something has to give. The only reason not to cancel the show now and do one more season is to produce enough episodes so the show can be resold for syndicated reruns. The 4th season will give the series enough episodes to qualify for this. It is unlikely the ratings will improve significantly since people may be turned off by entering into a series that is 3 years old. Furthermore, the current trend in television seems to be game show or voyeur oriented. Interestingly, by removing most of the original cast from the payroll, Tribune may have extended the life of the series since they can now hire fewer, cheaper actors. But it seems more economical for Tribune to kill the series after season 4 and hope the Sci-fi channel will buy rerun rights.

What's going to happen to this web site?

For now, the site will remain mostly inactive. We are tired of having to deal with the misrepresentation of Gene Roddenberry's ideas being presented in all the current crop of shows carrying his name, so we plan to disappear until those shows disappear. Ultimately, however, once people begin to forget these shows, and perhaps a mild academic interest begins to return in Roddenberry, we may begin to rebuild this site and convert it into a site about Gene Roddenberry and his art and ideas rather than to EFC or a specific show. This has always been what we were really after.

We still have articles that are partially written and a few other goodies which we would like to post, so if we ever find the time and energy to finish them, they may pop up from time to time.

Thank you all for your positive support. We wish things could have turned out better.

In fulfilling our promise to release those things we have been working on, we have finally posted some image captures we've been sitting on. We have been experimenting with some techniques to enhance and clean up images, but it is a slow and laborious process so we only have a few images. You might also notice that the majority of images are from season 1. We think the camera work and direction was more interesting back then and thus facilitated more interesting captures. We hope you like them.

So, without any further ado... The Companion Image Gallery!
