A Very Special EFC Commercial (7.4 Mb zipped/11.7 Mb unzipped)
This commercial is not available on the official site. It ran on television in the beginning of season 1.
We rarely saw it because it normally aired around 4am, and not that frequently. We think it is a very
well done commercial and would like to share it here. (We personally use it to introduce new people to the show.)
It starts with a narrative by Leni Parker saying, "Like you, we stared up at the stars and wondered...".
After Leni's part, the commercial goes into a description similar to the main title sequence, but
a little different. In the background music is a slightly extended version of the main title
theme. (The movie is 1 minute, so you get 10 extra seconds.)
(For those of you wondering, the station identifier is for a San Diego station, and the show is no longer shown
at the wonderful 9pm time slot, but has been pushed 3 hours to an insulting midnight showing.
Fortunately, they moved it again a few months later to a
(slightly more) respectable 6pm slot on Saturdays.)
Please, do not post this movie without mentioning where you got it from! If you post our movie, we require you to provide a link to http://sdcc10.ucsd.edu/~ewing/companion . We managed to capture this movie only through grueling acts of effort and personal sacrifice as we don't have any video capture equipment.
Unfortunately, space limitations require that we compress the movie. Furthermore,
GeoCities sucks for downloading large files, so we had to split the
archive into 1Mb segments. However, PKZIP sucks at file spanning, so we used a better
archiving program called RAR. But many fileservers don't recognize RAR as binaries and will send it as ASCII, so we had to ZIP the RAR fragments. Save the files from the links below,
then decompress it and view it at home. See the Zipped RAR Instructions if you're not sure how to deal with our compression scheme.
The Files At Geocities
- EFC_COM1.ZIP (1,024,122 bytes)
- EFC_COM2.ZIP (1,024,122 bytes)
- EFC_COM3.ZIP (1,024,122 bytes)
- EFC_COM4.ZIP (1,024,122 bytes)
- EFC_COM5.ZIP (1,024,122 bytes)
- EFC_COM6.ZIP (1,024,122 bytes)
- EFC_COM7.ZIP (1,024,122 bytes)
- EFC_COM8.ZIP (273,766 bytes)
Alternative Download site:
This one will not be up for too much longer, but it is faster and more reliable than Geocities.
Space limitations forced us to break it up into two parts. We used RAR once again. Instead of
ZIPPING the fragments, we added an extra file extension at the end of the file (.BIN). You will need
to rename the files to EFC_COMM.RAR and EFC_COMM.R00.
Get the movie direct from the EFC Nexus
In response to an offer we made to all Earth: Final Conflict websites, the EFC Nexus has graciously agreed to host the entire movie, in whole, uncompressed, and on a permanent basis.
Title Theme MP3 Files
These are the various title themes used on Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final
Conflict. Once again: enjoy, but please don't distribute without a link
back to us, and don't try to pass them off as your own work.
These files are encoded using the MPEG Audio Layer 3 specification (MP3).
The files are PKZIPPED so you will need to extract them once you download
them.
Most people will think the files sound fine, and you are not likely going
to find a significantly better sample, but here's an
incentive to buy the CD when it comes out :-)
The audio was recorded from broadcast tv (22kHz? analog), directed into an
obscenely noisy Sound Blaster 16 (can't afford a Turtle Beach Fiji), and
then compressed into MP3 at 128kbits/s (near 44kHz, but not lossless,
which means you will get a near perfect reproduction of all the noise
picked up through broadcast and re-recording).

How to Deal with Zipped RAR Archives
Macintosh Instructions
- Download MacUnRAR from here.
- Download all the files above, preferably into a new directory.
- Use Stuffit Expander or ZipIt to expand them into files named efc_comm.r??.
- Open the MacUnRAR application, and use the "Expand..." command (in the File menu) on the file "efc_comm.rar".
- Spend a minute or so watching the status bar.
- You should now have a file called efc_comm.mov which is an Apple Quicktime movie you can play (tested both on Mac and PC) in the same directory as the RAR files.
Instructions for Other Operating Systems (DOS/WIN/UNIX/OS2)
- You can download RAR from here
- We are not familiar with the Windows version so here are some short instructions for the DOS version (note that DOS is case-insensitive).
- Download the files above.
- Unzip all the files which will give efc_comm.r?? files. (pkunzip efc_com*.zip)
- Download the RAR file into a directory of your choice.
- Run the RAR executable you downloaded, which will extract all the files.
- Either put this directory in your PATH, or copy the file "RAR.EXE" to the directory holding your EFC RAR files.
- Go to the directory with the EFC movie files.
- Type "rar e efc_comm.rar" without the quotes.
- Watch the pretty ASCII status screen as RAR decompresses everything.
- You should now have a file called efc_comm.mov which is an Apple Quicktime movie you can play (tested both on Mac and PC)
