Feature Articles
Here are just a few of the articles that we are proud to feature at the Companion. We also have some good reading in the
About Earth: Final Conflict area as well as the
Detailed Analyses that we have written for specific episodes.
Beware: All of these articles contain spoilers. Click here to see the

Originally intended for a detailed analysis of
Law and Order, but it quickly evolved into
something more. It assumes you have seen the season 1 finale,
The Joining
-
Explores the difference between technobabble and legitimate "givens". Assumes you have seen episode 2 of the first season,
Truth.
-
A subsection in the article called "What is Gargoyles?". It was
written as a warning of what bad things can happen to a series, comparing
it to problems that surfaced in EFC season 1 in producing "Sandoval's
Run" and the airing of "Infection". In hindsight of what happened to EFC
after season 1, this warning was well justified.
Detailed Analyses of Episodes
- These are a few select articles written for the analysis of specific
episodes that we felt we would direct your attention to. For brevity, not
all of the articles are listed. Please see the
episode list
episode list for the complete list.
-
- A micro-analysis approach to what's wrong with post-season 1 EFC
using the episode Payback as a back drop.
Includes a partial, but detailed look at Roddenberry's vision. Also
includes the following aside topics:
-
- As the episodes continued to get worse, our brief analyses became
increasingly satirical. This is one of our favorite reviews, on the
horrible (but unfortunately typical) episode The Gauntlet. Think of
the review as bad writing meets
Monty Python.
-
- This was written as an impartial analysis of the initial changes
made at the start of season 2. In hindsight, it may have not been slanted
enough because of the quick deterioration of the series after this point.
Included are some tidbits on the importance of William Boone to the
Roddenberry vision. This was to be a stepping stone for another article
we have been developing on the why Boone is/was an essential character for
a Gene Roddenberry series, but seeing that fighting to defend the
integrity EFC and other Roddenberry series is a lost cause at this point,
we have been unmovitated to finish the counterpart article.

Documents the flaws done in the episode
Destruction
-
-
An analysis of Roddenberry's views of what humanity is capable of, while
exposing potential consistency flaws with his ideas in the episode
The Secret of
Strandhill. Strangely enough, this article also warned of (foreshadowed) the
deterioration of the series.
-
- A look into Sandoval's character and the choices he makes in what
he believes under his own free will, as presented in Sandoval's Run
.
-
- A near end of season 1 look at the idea of what a person chooses
to believe is both a hamartia, and yet an ironic strength, as
decisions on
pure facts may not be enough. Based on the phrase spoken by Boone in The Devil You Know
.
-
- An analysis and praise for EFC breaking away from the trend of
oversimplifying
characters and groups into "good" and evil. Unfortunately, this trend did
not continue after season 1. Written for the episode
Resurrection
.
-
- Assumes you have seen Horizon Zero.
Also includes a look at our current space exploration technology. This page also contains an
analysis of the Taelon shuttle's speed.
-
- A short, but sweet look at the speed of the interdimensional
portal from Through the
Looking Glass.
