Lake Tahoe

In late January, we planned a ski trip to Lake Tahoe with our good friends Martin and Robert. Unfortunately, Robert's mother became seriously ill and Robert rushed back to Ohio to be with her.

We transformed the trip into a toddler snow vacation with two other families with toddlers joining us.

We all had a blast -- especially Matthew and Omar who had never been to the snow before. In our trip photos, you can see that Matthew and Omar took to the snow right away and enjoyed throwing snowballs and building snowmen. Omar's incredible arm made him a force to be reckoned with and we soon had JC covered in snow.

The house we stayed at was perfect for toddlers. The owners have two young boys, so the house was equipped with a toy room and there was lots of space for everyone to spread out. The house was less than a five minute walk from a wonderful lodge and small lake.

On our second day, we went cross country skiing and I experienced first hand how challenging it is to ski with a 50 lb. sleigh hitched behind me. We were all relieved to have accomplished the trek at the end of the day and I think we were all glad that we had only purchased one day passes by the time we sweated our way back to the lodge.

We spent our evenings watching movies and staying up until the wee hours a couple of nights catching up on adult conversation. Unfortunately, both boys came down with a stomach flu in the middle of our stay, but they were troupers and were on the mend by the time we said good-bye to our vacation home and made our way back to San Francisco.
