Sharing Masters+Edits
A lot has been written about how difficult it can be to share a master image with metadata and edits with another Aperture user. Sure, it's easy to export the master with the XMP sidecar or the edited version as a TIFF, JPEG, or what have you but you can't easily share the edit data with another Aperture user without giving them the whole Project that contains your master.
Or can you?
As you have undoubtedly figured out (since I bothered to write about it), you can do this and it isn't too difficult.
Step 1- Make a new Project. Name it something like "Shared Stuff"
Step 2- Make an Album in that Project. Name it something creative like "This is an album"
Step 3- Add images that you want to share to that new Album.
Remember (or note) that Albums can have images that span Projects. Since Albums don't actually contain the images this is just fine- and very cool.
Export your Project by selecting it (very important to select the Project and not an image or the Album) and choosing File > Export > Export Project…
Check the checkbox labeled "Consolidate images into exported project" (the only checkbox) and you're good to go. Your exported Project will contain your Album which contains your master images. You can easily use this method to share only selected images but still include metadata and Aperture's edits.
