When School Hurts, Kids Change

Do You Need Intervention With Your Child's School?

Our professional advocacy services are based on knowledge, experience, and a passion for providing accessible advocacy to families and their children. Most importantly, we are here to set families free from the imprisonment of a system that can dominate and overwhelm parents, who often feel powerless and unable to stop a process that corrupts the dignity, beauty and potential their child was born with. Our organization is driven by heart and run with the intelligence and skill to hold bureaucracies accountable and change lives! We will not turn families away because of the inability to pay.

ACE serves a diverse group of families. We work with parents of children who:
  • Have been falling behind or failing in school and suspect their child cannot pass classes without extra help
  • Have just been diagnosed with disabilities
  • Suffer from behavior problems
  • Have ADD/ADHD
  • Have Autism spectrum disorders
  • Are learning disabled

What is Special Education?

Many parents don't know that public schools are required by law to provide an appropriate education for special needs children. This can include a 504 plan for accommodations, or an Independent Education Plan for specific services like educational therapies and counseling.

Who Qualifies for Special Education ?

Many different types of needs can qualify a child for Special Education. No two cases are alike. Some of the qualifications for Special Education are:

  1. Students with Learning Disabilities
  2. Students with behavior problems that impede their ability to learn.
  3. Students with behavior problems that impede their ability to socialize with their peers.
  4. Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders
  5. Students with Severe Emotional Disorders
  6. Students with AD/HD
  7. Students with Orthopedic Impairments
  8. Students with Developmental Disorders

How does school impact special needs children?

Education affects a child's self-concept, who s/he becomes as an individual. Here is an example of what happened to a child with behavior problems caused by learning disabilities.

When does Special Education get difficult?

Special education can get difficult the first day the child is identified as deviating from the norm.

Difficulties can center around relations with the school. Difficulties can be related to the personal stress of managing both the child and the school. Relationships in the home can get disrupted and make home life more difficult. The home can become dominated by school. Combined with other life problems, special education can become unbearable and often, parents seek advocates.
