THE JOHN BYRNE FORUM
Comic book legend John Byrne rose to stardom two decades ago when he took over
the artistic reins on X-Men and laid the groundwork for those misunderstood
mutants to become the top-selling superheroes of the modern age. His stellar
work as writer and artist on Fantastic Four, Superman, Spider-Man, Wonder
Woman, Hulk, She-Hulk, Alpha Flight, and Next Men have enthralled a generation
of admirers. A healthy community of intelligent superhero fans has sprung
up around the message board where Mr. Byrne makes his presence known in cyberspace,
including yours truly. Click
on over and witness my geekitude in full force.
MY FAVORITE BOOKMARKS
CALL ME ISHMAEL RECORDINGS
This
non-profit organization has a mission to provide the population of North
America with cool driving music. Great compilations of pop and rock music
that give mix tapes a good name!
PRINCE IN PRINT For
some reason, I thought the world needed access to a large archive of text
describing and documenting the fascinating world of Prince Rogers
Nelson.
Therefore, I collected a vast array of reviews, interviews and news articles
that has become the most comprehensive on the Web. For current news about
His Royal Badness, try HouseQuake.com or prince.org.
INTERNET
MOVIE DATABASE
Did you ever watch a movie and ask yourself, "Where have I seen this guy
before?" Get your answers the way I do -- surf to the IMDb and click some
links. I've spent hours wandering around the most massive of all film resources,
picking up useless knowledge so I can bore my friends.
ROGER EBERT
Only one film critic has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize, and that's our pal
here with the thumb. For those of you who care about such things, Roger is
the fat one. The Chicago Sun-Times has been kind enough to provide a searchable
database of his movie reviews over the last fifteen years. He works on a
4-star scale, and I've learned that the low-ranking reviews are the most
entertaining.
THE ONION
Current events and popular culture have never been skewered with more skill.
The Onion is the funniest site on the Web, and in the spirit of all great
satire, it can also make you think.
POLLSTAR
Want to see what concerts are coming to your town? Need to know if your favorite
band is on tour? The nice people at Pollstar will let you search their records
for dates and venues. If you need to buy tickets, you'll have better luck
on the TicketMaster site.
URBAN
LEGENDS REFERENCE PAGES
Did you receive a forwarded email containing a story that sounds implausible?
Did someone tell you an anecdote about something wildly bizarre that happened
to a "friend of their cousin who lives in Las Vegas"? Are you simply
a cynical jerk like me? Zip on over to snopes.com and
check it out.
FRIENDS AND FAMILY
XAVIER XERXES
My older brother, the very talented John Howard II, is marketing his self-released
CD album at this site. You can see pictures of his custom-made guitars
and
hear some of his wacky jams! You can also learn a lot about John by going
to his personal site at JohnHoward.net.
BRAD HOWARD FURNITURE
This site showcases the furniture-making skills of my younger brother, who
both designs and builds custom-made, hand-crafted cabinets, tables and shelving
units. One of these days I'm going to ask him to make display cases for my
Star Wars figures.
CHECK OUT MY SPICE RACK
My pal Mamma Spice maintains a blog with detailed accounts of her culinary triumphs,
experiments, and tragedies. She's witty and wise and knows her stuff.
DESIGN MUNKEE
I met Margaret in college and have been in awe of her design skills ever since.
Check out her portfolio on her modest site.
