iPhoto Preferences : There are some preferences that you may want to change before you get started using iPhoto. To view these preferences, go to the iPhoto menu and then click on Preferences
- Photos: Shadow or Frame - selecting either shadow or frame puts either a shadow or a frame border around your photos in the main photo window. If you select frame, you can also decide the color of the background (black - grey - white).
- Align to Grid: If you put a check mark next to align to grid then iPhoto will align all of your photos neatly in a grid. If not, then it will fit them as many on a row as it can.
- Most Recent at Top: Clicking this (of course) puts the most recently imported photos at the top.
- Rotate Photos: Would you prefer that the photos rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise when you click this button? How you turn your camera most often, when you take a picture will determine this.
- Edit Options: The selections you make here will determine how iPhoto reacts when you double click on a photo (or click the edit button). By default, double clicking the image changes it to edit view. If you select separate window, then double clicking it will open the Photo in a separate editing window (with all of the same options). If you would like to specify some other photo editing software (i.e. Adobe Photoshop) then select other and then click the set button to select your photo editing program of choice.
- Assign / Search Uses: If you would rather add comm
ents to your photos than to assign keywords, then select comments and instead of getting the keywords buttons (as in the example at the top of the page) you get a comments box where you can add text comments to any photo (example just above).
- Slide Show: Here you can set your basic slide show settings for use with the Play Slide Show button. These are the settings that will be used any time you click this button.
You can select the music that you would like to play with your slideshow by clicking on the Music Menu. There are two choices in the Music Menu (Minuet in G and Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring) and you can also select any music that is on your computer. Later we will learn how to create specific slide show settings for use with specific photo albums or groups of photos.
End of Lesson One : Here is a recap of what you learned in this lesson:
- How to use the iPhoto Interface
- How to use the preferences to make iPhoto behave the way you want it to
Feel comfortable with the iPhoto Interface? Then you are ready to move on to lesson two.
