I
didn't mean to become obsessed
On the way home one evening we were driving along the
Tankbund when I saw the most gorgeous red and pink sky.
It sat behind the Buddha's head and I knew I needed pictures.
I am a card-carrying amateur shutterbug and thus, at times
like this one, feel the need to play photographer. So,
me and my new lens went to the Tankbund and got the pictures.
It took me three times to get there on time (traffic can
be very bad), but I'm glad I did. Part learning, part
fun, this series is something I'm glad I did.
The Buddha statue was a gift to the city. When it was
originally being placed on it's pedestal, it fell and
killed 7 or 8 workers who were trapped below it in the
mirky depths of the lake. After some time, the city finally
raised the statue and placed it on its platform. It's
a striking signature point for the city. Whereas most
Indian cities seemed to lack reference points, the Buddha
and many other buildings and topographical markers, helped
give the visitor a better feel for the land.
The Tankband is a popular gathering spot in the evenings,
mornings, and nights. |
