Another city and another fort. Apparently the royalty of Rajasthan either had severe complexes about the size and complexities of their forts like today’s men use Viagra, or they all lived in a very unsafe world. The Meherangarh was unique in that it is the only one privately owned. Following a disastrous and short period of administration by the local and federal government, the original owner took back ownership and oversight of the fort. Privately run, the fort is probably the cleanest and most well preserved one we saw. Additionally, there is an extensive collection of Raj era articles to peruse. The single best feature was the complex stone carving work at the end of the tour. The incredible detail of the work is impressive.
