The Samode Haveli is amazing. In my opinion, it was the best place we stayed throughout the entire time in India. In fact, it was better than any other place I had ever stayed in India. The Samode is a charming haveli with mysterious winding hallways leading to marvelous rooms and secluded niches. I booked the Haveli specifically for the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ suite or mirrored suite. Well, it wasn’t just sheesh. The room was pure enchantment. Surrounded by walls dripping of intense painted scenes and miniatures that reflected in the thousands of tiny mirror, we were in awe of the splendor of the room.
What made us even more excited was the revelation of a second (!) Sheesh Mahal suite. This one was even more spectacular than the other. Up a narrow staircase sits the wonderful second Sheesh Mahal suite. This one had colored glass windows that tinted the sunlight that sparkled in brilliant color against the mirrored arches.
Then, in the evenings, the haveli hired puppeteers and a folk dancer to keep us entertained. The boy folk dancer was so heartbreak adorable we had him dance for us continually. The puppet show kept us all laughing. A fantastic evening of food, entertainment, and good spirits has left a mark on my memory. As Jonathan said, this would be a fantastic spot for a honeymoon; perhaps after May 17th…
PS. Sorry for the dark or blurry photos. The flash made the room look bland when its colors were vibrant in reality. To capture the most realistic look, I generally refrained from using flash.
