After the Taj Mahal, Agra’s version of the Red Fort wasn’t quite as beautiful or impressive as the Taj, but it was very large.  It was here that Shah Jahan was imprisoned, well more like detained, and forced to only see from a distance his beautiful and costly extravagance of love.  He could never visit it again, for his son, Aurangzeb, kept him at the Fort until the end of his days.
The fort is very large and once had running water elevated to the internal gardens by means of a water wheel.  It was also in better shape than its relative in Delhi.  It’s large, open spaces and meticulously carved and inlaid marble showed its greater importance.  It also had a very large garden area as well as ample number of rooms, courtyards, chambers, hallways, and staircases to suit a large royal court.  Meanwhile, would someone please tell the guide to be quiet again?
