Gaming and More

I ran the second session of my Lord of the Rings game yesterday afternoon. I think it went well, people seemed to have a good time. After the game we went to Rainy Day Games and I acquired the following games:

GURPS SWAT, Chief Herman's Next Big Thing and Lightspeed (both from Cheapass Games), and for Spycraft: Shadowforce Archer, Modern Arms Guide, The Archer Foundation, Soldier/Wheelman Class Guide, Gentlemen's Agreement, Pan-Asian Collective, Fixer/Pointman Class Guide, European Commonwealth, Faceman/Snoop Class Guide, African Alliance, and The 1960s. Whew! I now have everything for Spycraft other than the Game Control Shield.

I've been going through the Spycraft stuff since then and will be for some time.

New Acquisitions

Last night, I picked up The Shop and Most Wanted, two new supplements for Spycraft. I also picked up two Hip Pocket games from Cheapass Games, Safari Jack and TimeLine. I also worked more on my Spycraft game this morning and afternoon.

HeroQuest

I received my copy of Dragon Pass: Land of Thunder and a second copy of the Hero's Book. They're both great books and bode well for further HeroQuest support.

I worked more on my forthcoming Spycraft campaign the last two days.

Three Games

I Sunday the group met at Brennan & Mila's. I helped a new player, Chuck, make a character for my Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game and talked to Matt about his character. I also playtested some Savage Worlds combat with Brennan, as he's thinking of running a fantasy game and is undecided about whether to use Dungeons & Dragons or Savage Worlds. He's still undecided. When I got home I worked on my upcoming Spycraft game (probably not starting until spring, or something like that).

HeroQuest Playtesting

This afternoon, Reza, Bryan, John, and I playtested some alternate conflict resolution house rules I got from the HeroQuest mailing list. They worked quite well, I'll be adopting them. The barn's DSL conked out at the end so we lost Reza.

Cyberthulhu

We finished up John's cyberthulhu one-shot last night. The ending was very confusing, but Dave's character ended up becoming Hastur, or something like that. It was a little less focused than the prior session, I think, but still fun.

Cybercthulhu?

We began John's one-shot game of cybercthulhu last night. It seems very promising, even if it might not be cthulhu-esque. John did a very good job of doing a netrunning session that involved all of us. I'm looking forward to next week. I'm playing Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, a professional gambler.

LoTR

I ran my first Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game session this afternoon. Philip's playing a Silvan loremaster/magician, Mila's playing a Hobbit rogue, Brennan a Sindar ranger, Heidi a Dunedain noble, and Reza a rider of Rohan. I thought it went well, a good start to the campaign.

HQ and LOTR

I played in Bryan's heroic HeroQuest twice, once Wednesday night and this afternoon. One thing's for sure with the higher point total, there's a vast difference between PCs abilities. There's 2-3 levels of mastery difference between my character and Bryan and Reza's characters.

I've also been getting ready to run The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game for the Saturday group this Sunday.

Spycraft

I've been reading the main Spycraft rulebook most of the day. I think they've done a good job capturing the genre, even though it is a d20 game. We'll see how it works in play.

HeroQuest

I ran HeroQuest this afternoon and it went well, I think. The players triumphed fairly easily because 1) they had a good idea I hadn't anticipated (augmenting Bryan's character up heavily beforehand), and 2) I rolled poorly. So we pressed on and they formed a heroband, The Spears of Orlanth, and obtained a wyter.

HeroQuest

I worked out the adventure for this Saturday's HeroQuest game tonight. This is the combat-oriented adventure. I hope it goes well.

No Man's Land

We finished playing No Man's Land, a Call of Cthulhu adventure, last night. It was a very CoC session: Philip's character fell unconscious and then was sucked into the ground when the church we were fleeing got sucked in, my character had his right leg torn off by ghouls and died, Bryan and Reza's character (they were sharing one) burst into flames and died, we were being chased by ghouls and left Philip's 2nd character behind as he fell unconscious (and it turned out he had the paper with the chant to reseal the gate so we had to come back and recover the paper from his dismembered corpse), my second character was shot and killed by Bryan's second character as my character was possessed and trying to eat the paper with the chant, and Bryan's second character was killed in the final battle. Thus only John's character sealed the gate and survived, permanently disfigured, with multiple personality disorder, and with only 8 Sanity left. All in all, a very successful CoC adventure.

Evernight

Last Wednesday night we played another session of Evernight. I thought it went well, we had a nice bar brawl (where I got to point and laugh at an NPC) and then went to clear out some undead that had been attacking refugees. We took the main bad guy out pretty quickly (considering how tough he was) because a) Bryan kindly spent lots of his bennies up front, and 2) I got a massive 5-wound hit on him early on. He was operating at two wounds from Incapacitated from that point on.
