It must be in the water...

First the fire breaks out in Arkansas... now it has jumped the river into Tennessee!

Reports out of Memphis have people concerned about the potential for significant cuts to the music programs.

Here is an excerpt from a concerned citizen in Memphis:

Memphis City Schools is faced with record budget cuts for the 2005-2006 school year totalling around 30,000,000 dollars. MCS is requesting that all concerned individuals who live within the viewing areas of channels 3,5,13, and 24, fill out a survey to determine what things the community sees as possible cuts.

This survey is found on the MCS website (http://www.mcsk12.net/Budget-Survey/Online_Survey.html). Look for the school budget survey link and fill it out. As a special favor to me, I would appreciate you placing co-curricular and extra-curricular activities at the bottom of your proposed cuts. The arts are always one of the first things systems talk about cutting during trying financial times. They do not always understand the incredible things that are learned and experienced through the arts that help us throughout our lives.

Items are to be ranked from 1 to 25 with 25 being the last thing you want to see cut. It is my opinion that
everything on the list that is not directly involved with the students should go first. You can fill it out however you want to, just please fill it out.

Our community is slowly allowing the dismantling of our schools after we have finally begun to show some improvement and seem to be heading in the right direction. We cannot continue to be complacent with our future. Thank you so much in advance for your help in this matter. I appreciate it and so will the students of Memphis City Schools.

Now I would never suggest people outside of the Memphis area should fill out this survey... that just would not be right... would'nt be fair...

What's that url again?
