Our grandfather, Thomas Alexander McDaniel, and his wife, Catherine Reid, of Shanmoy. They were married on 4 June 1878 in the Eglish Presbyterian Church and they had 6 sons and 4 daughters: Mary Jane (Minnie), William James, Richard Thomas (my father), Matilda (Tillie), Margaret Ann (Maggie), Samuel John, Edward, Robert David, Edwin Ynyr, and Lillian Frances Violet.
Mary died when she was only 26, just 6 months after her marriage.
William was married 3 times (his first at age 19) and had 3 daughters and a son in his first marriage, a son and daughter in his second, and a son in his third. He lived most of his working life in Scotland, where he married and raised his family.
Edward immigrated to Toronto, Ontario, married Catherine Gillies, and had 4 daughters and 1 son.
Richard Thomas immigrated to Canada in 1908. He spent his career in the Canadian Army, living in Kingston, Ontario; London, Ontario; Winnipeg, Manitoba; Calgary, Alberta; Esquimalt, British Columbia; and Petawawa Military Camp, Ontario. He served overseas with the Canadian Ordnance Corps in WW1. He married Agnes May Anderson on 12 February 1920 and had 2 sons.
Ynyr immigrated to Chicago, Illinois, and worked as an accountant for a meat packing company. He never married.
Samuel immigrated to Kansas City, but lost contact with the family. He did marry and had a son and a daughter.
Margaret immigrated to Canada and lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Vancouver, British Columbia. She was married but had no children.
The rest of the family remained in Northern Ireland, though David later moved to York, England, after service as a regular in the Royal Irish Fusiliers in which he also served during WWI. He married but had no children. Tillie married John Morrow and had 4 sons and 2 daughters. Violet married Hugh Robinson and had 2 daughters.
