Marooned - Art. Fiction. Poetry
About
Marooned magazine is supported by the ASU Department of English and is the vehicle for publishing the emerging voices from the ASU student body. Marooned is proud to publish winners of the Randel and Susan McCraw Helms Writing Contest and winners from ASU Writing Programs' Printer's Devil Contest right alongside writings by well-established ASU faculty and the emerging voices of ASU's Creative Writing alumni. The magazine staff is composed of undergraduate Department of English student interns who plan the magazine content, solicit submissions and funding, and arrange for printing and distribution.

The all-student staff earns 3 upper-division elective credits while learning first-hand the ins and outs of publishing a print magazine with supplemental web-based content. New staff for the magazine can enter the internship program at the beginning of each semester by applying through the Department of English Internship Progam.

We are continually interested in hearing from talented writers, editors, artists, graphic designers, production and advertising specialists. As a Marooned intern, you will:

  • solicit advertising and community support
  • plan content
  • schedule production
  • arrange for copyrights
  • edit technical and creative writing by students
  • work with artists
  • coordinate printing and distribution
  • and more

Students with an academic standing of at least Junior and who have maintained a GPA of at least 3.0 may apply to be a Marooned intern. Strong communications and organizational skills are required, along with a strong interest in creative writing (poetry, essays, and fiction) and publishing. In the upcoming semesters, we would like to hear from talented web designers with skills to revamp our website.

To apply for a Marooned Internship, please contact the Marooned Faculty Advisor, Bob Haynes or the Department of English Internship Coordinator, Ruby Macksoud. Internships are semester-long activities and involve regularly scheduled work assignments. Marooned interns should plan on working an average of 10 hours each week on activities related to the journal.
