PLAY AREA REOPENS!
We had a final walkthru with Parks safety folks yesterday after spending the day working with the playstructure rep to complete the remaining safety pickup items. We received the okay to open the play area today. It will take a few days for the fence to be taken away totally, but we will move the panels at the path out of the way today.

Thanks to all who exercised restraint through the difficult weeks of review and honored the closure signs.

It is a happy day in the neighborhood. The Wallingford Playfield play area is back in operation!

See you there!

FUTURE CALENDAR
Later this Spring/early Summer, we will hold a small workparty to install the pavers at the SE Picnic Area overlook.

DONOR MATERIALS
We are still accepting donations to support improvements at the park such as artwork. "No-name" overlook pavers ($25) and boulders ($150) are available for adoption. Benches ($600) include a recognition plaque, if desired. Check the website or send us an email for more information. If you have already subscribed, thank you, you donations have helped fund the work FoWP has been coordinating. You will be contacted in the coming weeks to receive your adoption certificates, or to work out the wording for you plaques. Thank you for your patience.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Your help is needed to allow the park to get strong. The field is particularly vulnerable this time of year and may not be in good condition for use in the Spring and Summer if it is overused during the winter. This has prompted Parks to close the field, although their signs may leave something to be desired. Off-leash dogs and teams using cleats are highly damaging and should not be using the field. Take a look at the torn-up areas and you will see that the soft soil is easily shredded. Parks will not be doing much more than they are doing now, so it is up to the community to cooperate and use common sense to avoid further damage. We will all benefit. It will be much more palatable to bear with a field closure now than to have a fence go up in the Spring. Please feel free to pass a polite word to offenders if you witness the field being damaged. Thanks.

DONATIONS NEEDED
The construction to be completed this fall will include all new playground equipment, extensive landscaping surrounding the wading pool, and a crushed rock path around the playfield connecting to the paths on the east end of the park. The Pro Parks Levy approved by voters two years ago will fund most of the construction. However, some costs are NOT covered by these funds and we need your help to make these improvements a success.

  • New park benches will be located throughout the park. Park benchescan be adopted for $600 and may include an engraved donor plaque.
  • For a $150 donation you can adopt a park boulder and receive acertificate of adoption (no engravings).
  • A donation of $25 will purchase pavers to complete the "overlook" located on the NW corner of the Southeast Picnic Area.
  • Cash donations of any amount will be put to use where needed most.

Look for our yellow donor cards in local Wallingford businesses or go to our support page.
