Shifting one's attention is the first step in doing something new or different and we can't get into the future without doing something new or different—tomorrowS are never a linear extrapolation of yesterday or today. After several years of full time work trying to develop a system for achieving superior investment results, it finally dawned on me to look at the composition of the Forbes 400 richest Americans list. Besides Warren Buffett there we very few others who had been able to develop an approach that beats random luck (Google: marketwatch "lazy portfolios").

The overwhelming source of financial success in America comes from what I call ORGANIZATION EVOLUTION © and early participants who are able to avoid being pushed out.

What follows is my contribution to helping others explore the terrain and develop an approach grounded in reality.

These principles are presented in more detail on page 286 of The Intelligent Investor. Financial Terrain Exploration: The image at the right is the table of contents for a financial investment presentation that I assembled quite a few years ago. There are two pdf files that can be downloaded. The first is the actual file with illustrations and comments. This file presents some overviews and insights into the investing terrain. The second file is a detailed checklist that can be used for creating an interest profile. The main lesson that this data conveys is the complexity of the situation and reinforces the next to the last line in the previous image: "to achieve satisfactory investment result is easier than most people realize. To achieve superior results if far harder than it looks." See page 201 of The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham
