Teachers Apply What They Learn
Bobb Darnell
Conferences and workshops offer great ways to confirm what you are doing well and to extend your thinking about student learning. Once a teacher arrives back into the classroom after a workshop or conference, the reality sets in. First, you might have forgotten some key ideas from the presentation and need a reminder. Secondly, teaching is an all-encompassing job and it is hard to find time to try new ideas. So, check out the slide shows and become inspired again. It also will be a great reminder of that strategy or idea that you wanted to apply.

Three Things to Do to Improve Learning
1. Create a curriculum map to identify the units, knowledge, and skills embedded in what you teach.
2. Look at any student achievement data that you can get your hands on. Identify the strengths and needs of your students.
3. Review the research about teaching and learning. Go to web sites (www.ascd.org or www.nsdc.org) to find out about promising practices.
