How It Might Play OutWith the recent flap about the New York Times
publishing the story about financial tracking and they're now being accused of
treason. There are some right wingers saying we should find where they live and "Go hunt them down and
do America a favor". A talk show host would have "no problem" with the New York Times editor going
to the gas chamber for publishing the
story.
Anyway, it seems that conservatives really don't care for the mainstream media, even though they use it pretty well and wouldn't want to be left out of it. Now with all this talk the media can go a few ways here. I have a couple guesses. 1) The media actually starts covering things in a objective fashion rather than "he said, she said" like they've been doing for the past...who knows. Of course this will cause conservatives to get even more into an uproar over the liberal media! The cycle continues until the conservatives are even further out of the mainstream than they are now (I know it's tough to believe, just work with me) and people actually see them for what they are. 2) In an effort to appease the conservatives they'll be even tougher on Democrats in the future. And when another scandal pops up (is there any doubt?) conservatives will once again call them traitors. Cycle repeats. I'm hoping for #1, but #2 is a whole lot easier for them. If the media were into doing things right instead of easy we wouldn't have nearly as many problems as we do now. I don't hate the media. I think they're very important for democracy to work. The thing is though, they have to do the job well in order for the system to work right. I want to hear good and bad things about both parties. If someone's doing something illegal and they're a Democrat I want to know so we can get rid of them. I want the media to act like their supposed to. Be objective, not neutral.
