Fair Use (Hymn & JHymn) problem with iTunes 4.7As has been reported by others, iTunes 4.7 stores the keys in a differnt location than previous version of iTunes. This isn't a problem for those of you who have upgraded from previous versions of iTunes to iTunes 4.7, because 4.7 does not delete your keys from the old location when it's installed, thus hymn and Jhymn continue to work. For those of you have never had a previous version of iTunes on your system (new computer, formatted your hard drive, or are a new user and 4.7 is the first version you installed), hymn and Jhymn will not function correctly. Here's how to work around the problem. First, deauthorize your computer in iTunes 4.7 by clicking the Advanced menu and selecting Deauthorize Computer. Enter your AppleID and password to complete the operation. Next remove v4.7 from your computer. This will not remove your music or your music meta data (ratings, playlists, etc.). Next, go to http://www.tucows.com/preview/333602.html and download iTunes and install iTunes 4.6. Once iTunes 4.6 is installed open it and play a song that you've previously purchased. iTunes will prompt you to authorize your computer. Once your system is authorized, the DRM keys will be copied to the proper location on your system and you should be able to use hymn or Jhymn. If you feel like upgrading back to 4.7, download it and install it. As I stated above, iTunes 4.7 will not remove the keys from the location where v4.6 and below stores them, so after reinstalling 4.7, hymn and Jhymn will still work. If you want 4.6 you better get it now. I don't know how much longer Tucows will mirror 4.6 before they go to the latest release. Posted: Sun - November 28, 2004 at 10:04 PM |
