Podcasts
A few Mac Podcasts are listed here.
So, what are Podcasts anyway? I have heard them
described as TiVO for audio, time-shifted audio, and audio blogs. If you
haven't discovered Podcasts, you are missing out. Download iTunes 4.9 (or later)
, click on Podcasts and then the Podcast directory (at the bottom of the page)
and discover this new world by subscribing to Podcasts that interest you. And
the best part is that most of them are
free.
I used to listen to music on my
iPod Shuffle as I jogged along with my pooch each morning. Now I listen to music
and my favorite Podcasts. There are hundreds of Podcasts listed on iTunes.
Following are a few of my favorites. You can click on the icon to go to the
Podcaster's web site or subscribe to their Podcast via iTunes.
Maccast is my favorite PodCast. Adam has a very
soothing voice and always seems to have the latest info. This Mac specific show
claims to be for geeks but I find it of more general interest. It is not an
uber-geek show. I really like his show notes on his website. There, you can get
to the links he mentions on his show. He also has an excellent forum to discuss
all Mac topics.
TWiT stands for This Week in Tech and folks that
listen to this show are called twits. It is usually a very informative techie
show hosted by Leo Laporte that talks primarily about computing. It is also
often very humorous. Be sure to stay till the end of the Podcast and listen to
their great theme song called 'Doin the TWiT' .
Science Friday consists of several Podcasts about
everything scientific and a few things that aren't. It is a rebroadcast of Ira
Flato's radio show of the same name which is on NPR. I find this show very
educational and his guests often include some of the leading minds in the
country. If you have iTunes set to automatically download the most recent
episode, you will miss several shows. There are usually 4 or more shows
available usually by Saturday.
These 2 kids do an amazing job with their new video
Podcast. It is a Mac specific video Podcast (so much for time shifted audio!)
and is usually about 20 - 30 minutes long. They are a very knowledgeable and
likable pair and seem to have loads of fun doing their weekly show. If you want
a giggle, check out their eighth Podcast which included out-takes from their
previous 7 shows. Amber has an infectious giggle and it will surely put a smile
on your face.
