In Texas It's ok to kill animals - as long as you didn't mean to be cruel

In the past couple days a story has come to light. A story which tells in a Jourdanton, Texas city employee directed other employees to drowned a number of dogs at the local water treatment facility.

That's not the end of it. According to the articles (like this one ) the animals in question (as many as six) were ill. Their time at the local shelter had run out and apparently the attending Vet was on vacation so Field Supervisor Chantan Morin ordered two city employees to put them in cages and drowned them at the water treatment plant.

Upon hearing about this cruelty the city residents became enraged and went to a council meeting to be heard - only to be told that the council did not want to hear from them.

Excuse me? Since when does anyone in government have the authority to tell the people FOR WHOM THEY WORK that they will not be heard? Perhaps we put up with this for a few years - but we settled that kind of attitude on July 4th, 1776.

The city is now investigating the situation - but there may not be any criminal charges filed because the employees were just following orders and Morin (or should that name be spelled with to o's?) may not have intended to be cruel. Sounds like they have more than one moron in Texas.

Perhaps the local citizenry should drown their council members then refuse to be arrested by the local police! But then again, perhaps not. We saw how far civil disobedience got another group of dissenters in Waco a few years back.
