Out of Control Tour
The Clash go Back to Basics - European Tour

cdr - upgrade thin sound - Sound 3 - 91min - 2gen - 29 tracks

Good copies circulate, but a rarer version is much better. It is also a much longer set and suggests the tape versions (below) have been edited at some point.

The upgrade is a much lower gen copy and it has a great sound but is a bit thin also pushing the G. Equaliser to the limit to bring out the bass.

It is very clear having said that, if a touch distant, with great range and clarity. The vocals and lead and the differing drums clearly made out though the bass is lost. There is no distortion.

"Clash at the Playhouse Edinburgh 84: before the band comes on sid vicious does my way on the tv screens, this hypes up an already hyped up crowd even further and the rush for the stage starts before the lights go out. Cosmo introduces the band, and their off, a good mix of old and new songs. Strummer berates the audience for gobbing and singles out an offender in the crowd, when he offers up the peace sign strummer isnt interested 'Dont give me that hippy shit you jerk, fuck off'."

"Mick Jones isn't missed musically, but the boy from bristol who's first single Jonesy gave the thumbs up to in Zig Zag all those years ago takes on his should I stay or should I go to mixed reaction. Its a fantastic venue and the sound is a lot better than the glasgow gig a few months previously when they knew they had to prove themselves, this time they were doing it."

this gig never took place. the band were scheduled to play Espace Ballad on the 23rd Feb. but this had to be re-sheduled to March 1st as a national lorry drivers strike blocked the trucks carrying the gear at Calais. Tickets stubs however stiff carry the 23rd date for a price of 80F which would have been about £6 at the time.
