Turks continue to hit Kurds
The Turkish airstrikes continue.
Turkish warplanes hit eight suspected Kurdish rebel hideouts in northern Iraq on Wednesday, the third cross-border air assault in 10 days, Turkey's military said.
When I looked at the possibility of a Turkish incursion into Iraq back in October, my main piece of advice was that they should hit hard, hit fast, and then pull back. Instead, they appear to be trying to smash the PKK by repeated applications of airpower. In other words, they're trying to fight the PKK much like the Israelis tried to defeat Hezbollah, and like the rest of NATO has been trying to defeat the insurgents in Afghanistan.
In other words, they're fighting in the American conventional style, which works great in conventional wars, but generally causes increasing amounts of blowback when applied to non-state forces.
It is fascinating, in a sort of gruesome way, to watch one military after another make the same mistakes.
