Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: The map library for a mod has become empty! What should I do to get the maps back?

A1: You have probably installed one or more maps with bad formatted map description files. This may cause the map library to become unusable. The result will either be an empty map library, or for some mods, probably a map library with only the baseq3 maps. (For Urban Terror and empty map library problem, please also take a look in A2 below.)
How to solve: Look into your mod directory and move out maps you may think could cause the corruption. One tip is to start moving out unknown and "home made" maps first. Another approach is to start removing all non-standard maps for the mod in question and after that move them in one after another to track down the .pk3 files that cause the problem. (If you find a "bad" map, we would gladly get a notification about which it is, so please send as an email, and maybe we can fix a way around for it in the next version of Arena Control.)

Q2: How do I get Urban Terror 3 to work with Arena Control?

A2: Short answer: Upgrade your Urban Terror 3 (q3ut3) version! This will most probably fix the empty map library problem.
Long answer: Because of some inconsistent formatting in map description files in Urban Terror 3.0, Arena Control will not be able to create a consistent map database with this version of UT. Version 3.1 and up does not cause this problem, so it is essential to use a newer version of q3ut3 than 3.0.

Q3: When I try to start a server with Arena Control I get an alert panel, telling me that Q3DedicatedServer could not be found. What should I do?

A3: Q3DedicatedServer is the preferred application for running a dedicated server. This application does not need the OpenGL graphics subsystem and is very efficient with system resources. The Q3DedicatedServer for Quake v.1.3.2 can be found in the test version: Quake3-132-Test3-Update.sit (This file may be found at Id Software's ftp site, see A4 below.)
Q3DedicatedServer is also available in the 1.3.0 version of Quake3.
Please note that PunkBuster is still not supported with the Q3DedicatedServer application. To enable PunkBuster on your server, please use the standard Quake3 application instead of the dedicated server application. (Set in Arena Control Preferences).

Q4: I only have the Mac OS Classic version of Quake3. Where do I find a Mac OS X update/version of the Quake3 application?

A4: Please go to Id Software's FTP site and download from there: ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake3/mac/

Q5: Which Q3 mods are supported by Arena Control?

A5: Arena Control currently support the following mods, i.e. these mods have been tested with the application:

Tested mods in Arena Control 1.0 are:
• Quake III: Team Arena
• Urban Terror
• Western Q3
• OSP
• True Combat (*)
• Reaction Q3 (*)
• Navy Seals (*)
• Q3 Fortress (**)
• Q3 Rally

• Alliance
• Afterwards (*)

• InstaGib+
• Freeze Tag

Perhaps you will find that other mods not listed above may work as well. Because a large part of the mod support works automatically this may be the case, so give it a try!

(*) For certain gametypes, these mods have one or more limit types that is not supported by the Arena Control standard GUI controls:
This may be: Rounds, Round Time Limit, Round Limit, Point Limit and Win Limit. Each of these limits are nonetheless configurable by using Extra Parameters in Advanced Setup.
(**) Q3 Fortress has a variable called ”mapindex” for each map that is not configurable with the current version of Arena Control.

Q6: When I switch to a certain mod no maps are visible in the Map library table. Or: When I switch to another mod only standard "baseq3" maps are shown in the Map library. Why?

A6: You have probably got an old version of Arena Control. Please go to the Downloads section and fetch the new 1.0.7 version.
If you are already running the latest version of Arena Control, you might want to read A1 above.

Q7: I have installed Arena Control on my computer running Mac OS X version 10.1.x and cannot get Arena Control to work properly. What should I do to make it work?

A7: There were some incompatibilities with Mac OS X 10.1.x in versions prior to 1.0.3 of Arena Control. Please go to the Downloads section and fetch the new 1.0.7 version.

Q8: I have installed Arena Control on my computer running Mac OS X version 10.4.x (Tiger) and cannot get Arena Control to work properly. What should I do to make it work?

A8: There were incompatibilities with Mac OS X 10.4.x in the latest 1.0.6 version of Arena Control. Please go to the Downloads section and fetch the new 1.0.7 version.

If you by any coincidence would find any maps/mods that do not work well with Arena Control, please let us know!

Please read the Arena Control Read Me file for basic information about the application. More information is available for registered users in the Arena Control User Guide.
