- HIPAA – you can’t call the patient by their full name
CONSOLE AREA
- Computers
- Monitors on patient in the treatment room (you must be able to see the patient, on the monitor, to be able to treat)
- Intercom system – you must be able to hear the patient to be able to treat (2-way system / you can hear patient all the time / patient can only hear you when you want them to)
- Red Button – Emergency Off
- Turns of the treatment machine
- Once it is pressed it has to be manually pulled out for machine to go back online
- Circuit breaker – cuts the room power off
- Red light – machine is ON
- Green light – machine is OFF
- Lamp test light button – press this to test the fault light and console lights
- Key – the on/off key for the treatment machine
- *LICENCES must be visible
TREATMENT ROOM DOOR
- red light – machine ON
- green light – machine OFF
- if the door is open the machine won’t go ON
- if the door is opened while the machine is ON it will automatically go OFF
TREATMENT ROOM
Cobalt Machine or Linear Accelerator
- gantry – arm that rotates the machine around the patient
- pizza board – measures the degrees of gantry rotation also has number pertaining to the treatment
- treatment field light – eminates from the head of the machine, has crosshairs
- beam stopper - blocks the treatment beams from hitting the walls etc...
Treatment Table
- also has an EMERGENCY OFF
- controls to move the table (can be on the side of the table or hanging from ceiling on the PENDANT)
Pendant – controls that hang from the ceiling. Controls the table and the treatment machine
Lasers – located on the lateral walls and are used for the proper positioning of the patient (supports REPRODUCABILITY)
Film Holders (HEUSTIS) – x-ray film cassette holder
Blocks
- custom blocks – cut with divergence of the beam
- standard blocks (emergency use) – cut straight with no divergence
Wedge – made of aluminum or lead and they are cut to an angle
Bolus Material – tissue equivalent material. Often made from beeswax, are used to fill gaps and pits in patient. Make it possible to give an even dose distribution.
SIMULATOR ROOM
Floroscope – gives real time x-rays. Controlled by a foot peddle.
Simulator – resembles the Linear Accelerator but is for diagnostic purposes.

Pendant – same as treatment room
Dark Room & Film Proccesor
- x-ray film development
- no light in room except for a red light
- film processing chemicals (beep when they are low)
View Box – on the wall. Used to view x-rays
JIG – a device used for quality assurance. Checks the accuracy of the equiptment
DOSIMETRY AREA
- used to make up treatment plans
- computers, scanners for digitizing information
