Anaplastic
- a pathological description
of cells, describing a loss of differentiation and more primitive
appearance. A loss of shape. These cells are very
far from normal, highly incurable, and highly radiosensitive.
Conventional
fractionation – standard treatment
– 5 times a week, 200 cGy a day = 1000 cGy a week.
Differentiation
- To become distinct or specialized.
In our terms differentiation predicts how vunerable a cell
will be to radiation. The more differentiated a cells is
the more radioresistant it will be.
Erythema
Dose - irradiation until
the patients skin turns red.
Fractionation
- treating patients over a period
of time with small doses of radiation.
Hyperfractionation
– (B.I.D.) treating a patient twice
a day
Protracted
fractionation – steching out the
treatment for a longer period of time with smaller doses.
Mitosis
- The entire process of cell division
including division of the nucleus and the cytoplasm.
Mitotic
future – the length of time mitosis
can be expected to continue.
Radiosensitivity
– a cells vunerability to radiation
Radioresistance
– cell invulnerability to radiation.
Cell that are not vunerable toradiation are radio resistant.
Roentgen
– ( R ) A unit of radiation
exposure. The amount of exposure the air receives (only for
x-rays and gamma rays)
