Lacrimal
apparatus - The lacrimal
apparatus is the system in the body that produces and drains tears.
Radiation
nephritis - t he result of
the kidneys being included within a therapeutic field of radiation
beyond tolerance. It is an acute reaction if tolerance is
exceeded.
Renal
failure - inability
of the kidneys to excrete wastes and to help maintain the electrolyte
balance cause by exceeding tolerance.
This is a severe reaction.
Active
spinal cord – extends from the foramen magnum to L2
Transverse
myelitis – inflammation
of the spinal cord caused by exceeding tolerance of that part of
the active spinal cord. This inflammation can damage or destroy
myelin, the fatty insulating substance that covers nerve cell fibers.
This damage causes nervous system scars that interrupt communications
between the nerves in the spinal cord and the rest of the body.
Unressected
lung cancer – is when the patient has not had surgery.
Radiation
pneumonitis – occurs when tolerance is exceeded to the
lung. The patient develops pulmonary fibrosis, radiation-induced
lung damage.
Pulmonary
fibrosis - scarring, or fibrosis, of the lungs. In time,
this fibrosis can build up to the point where the lungs are unable
to provide oxygen to the tissues of the body.
Radiation induced Osteonecrosis
- Osteonecrosis
is a disease coming from the interruption of the blood supply to the
bones. Without blood, the bone tissue dies and starts to be destroyed.
When tolerance (60 Gy) is exceeded to the bone is will cause
osteonecrosis to occur.
