This Just In
I recently had a magazine assignment to
photograph the Plastic People of the Universe, a Czech band best known for their
dissident heyday in communist Czechoslovakia. Their old pal Vaclav Havel, who
happened to be in DC, stopped by the club with Madeleine Albright in tow. He had
a beer with the band and hung around for the
show.
Meeting Havel (ok, yes, I got his autograph...) was a great moment for me, especially in such down to earth circumstances. What other leader in our lifetime has had such a combination of humanism, political statesmanship, AND an artistic sensibility? This shot is backstage outside the band's dressing room, as he's arriving. Oh hello Mr. Havel, click-click-click.
