Family Devotions with the One Minute Bible |
Since the new school year started, we've been reading the One Minute Bible (the Bible divided up into 366 one-minute readings) for some "short" family devotions in the morning. The kids bought into this idea primarily because they thought our morning devotional times with a "one minute Bible" would mean that our morning family devotional time would be brief. However, many of the one minute Bible readings have spurred some very stimulating (my view there) theological discussions. For example, we've talked about the Jehovistic names of God, theophanies, the goodness of God and why terrible things happen to people who love Him, and how to choose a good man (see last month's Strange But True Josey Story).
After a string of these longer-than-one-minute morning devotionals, Billy lamented, "We may be reading a one minute Bible, but we're getting a fifty-nine minute commentary."
Such is the plight of a preacher's kid.
