When I see an opportunity to train my five daughters about men--especially on how to pick a good man--I try to lean into it. Recently around our family table I was sharing the story of Jacob and Esau. We were discussing how Jacob was a home-body-kind-of-guy and how Esau was an outdoorsy man's man. After reading how a hungry Esau quickly sold his birthright to Jacob for a mere meal, I posed a question to my five daughters--testing their discernment about men: "Which kind of man do you prefer--a hairy manly hunter who makes rash decisions that he regrets the rest of his life--or a conniving mamma's boy who is a good cook and makes decisions by considering the long term implications?"
Josey, our eight year old, knowing that I was trying to make her think, asked, "Was Esau hot?"
Grudgingly I said, "He probably was."
Without even a second of hesitation, Josey said, "I'll take Esau!"
Obviously, some more biblical training is in order... and I am up for it!
