I am Christopher Woods. I started building guitars nearly fifteen years ago.
I built my first electric bass when I was 16 years old. Before finishing high school I had built a number of guitars and basses. One of which was entered into the Indiana Wood Expo competition where it took first place for its unusual entry.
To hone my skills in the craft, I headed to Phoenix, Arizona to attend the winter class of the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery (a luthier is a builder of stringed instruments) Requirements for the class are to complete one electric and one acoustic guitar. I completed this course and received my certification from the R-V school. I also enrolled in the after graduate program which allowed me to further my experience via extended access to the schools facilities and to build along with the next group of students. I feel that my greatest accomplishment while attending the R-V school was in building the acoustic guitar.
I found a job with Tobias guitars almost immediately upon moving to Los Angeles. Tobias was probably the biggest influence on my building style. There were about fifteen of us on staff and we produced about ten to twelve guitars a week. I worked on about 600 instruments with Tobias until the company moved under the roof of Gibson guitars in 1993.
In the past years I have been putting together my own workshop, building custom instruments, and making designs for my own line of guitars and basses. My commitment is to making the highest quality custom built instruments available. | |||||
