Playing Robots for GameCube

It's cool to see how similar the GBA and DS versions of the game I worked on came close to the console - there's a lot of overlapping ideas and concepts.

I've had a copy of Robots ever since it came out. After finishing Robots for the GBA and DS, Vivendi sent us copies of the next-gen game for PS2, X-Box and GameCube. I played it briefly but lost interest after a couple of levels.

But I picked it up about a week ago and have been plugging through it. All in all, it's not that bad at all. Reviews for the game consistently came in as 5.0 or so - the same scores Robots GBA and DS got.

The next-gen game has beautiful visuals. They did a really good job of making the environments and characters match the outstanding visual quality of the movie. The game-play is fair, nothing too outlandish. Embarrassingly though, I've had to reference the official strategy guide a few times. During the game, the goals aren't always readily apparent.

I just got to a cool part of the game where you control Rodney in a transit system ball and roll him around the level. This incorporates some cool roller-coaster type areas. It's hard to describe, but very cool and gives me some ideas for an upcoming game I might be working on soon.

All in all, a lot of fun and very underrated. If you like action-platformers, this game has some nice elements in it. It's cool to see how similar the GBA and DS versions of the game I worked on came close to the console - there's a lot of overlapping ideas and concepts.
