CHEM 233 Sample Exams

Note: There is now a separate page for CHEM 233 sample exams. These samples are original exams given during previous semesters. Use them to study, but do not rely solely on content in the samples; also review past homework questions, assigned readings, the course manual reading, and prelab lecture slides.

Welcome Fall 2009 Students!

Welcome to the undergraduate Organic Chemistry Labs homepage. This site serves both CHEM 233 (Organic Laboratory I) and CHEM 333 (Advanced Synthetic Laboratory). Several useful features are currently accessible including: a blog, which serves as an announcement board as well as a platform for chemistry discussion; the shared files page where students may download a variety of course materials including the syllabus, practical exam info, TA schedule, and exam reviews; TA information page; NMR data; and lecture notes for both CHEM 233 and 333.

ATR Arrives!

Attenuated total reflectance (ATR) capability has been added to the undergraduate organic chemistry laboratory FT-IR spectrometer. Check the blog for the complete story. A full-color version of the instructions for using the ATR accessory can be found here.

There are two required texts for CHEM 233:

1. Gilbert, J.C.; Martin, S.F.
Experimental Organic Chemistry: A Miniscale and Macroscale Approach, 4th ed.; Brooks/Cole: Pacific Grove, CA, 2006. ISBN: 0-495-01334-X.

2. Landrie, C.
Organic Chemistry Laboratory I: Lab Manual & Course Materials, Kendall-Hunt: 2009. ISBN: 978-0-7575-6240-2.

The second text above was stocked in the bookstore on Monday, August 24, 2009. Since the manual was not available until now, the front material and Lab One have been photocopied for you and will be distributed on the first day of class. You may also download that packet here. You will be responsible, however, for purchasing the lab manual before you complete Lab Two.
