Summary and Curve

Last update: 12/9/2009

The summary will be updated occasionally, particularly after exams and when TA's turn in new lab report grades. The normalization average and standard deviation will not be determined for each section until after the final exam. Until then, each section is arbitrarily normalized to a 70% average and 15% standard deviation. The summary statistics such as GPA, grade distribution and class curve are only rough estimates. These values with not be absolutely determined until all grades are entered after the final exam.

Lab Report Normalization Curve

The lab report average was normalized to a 70% for the section with the lowest combined average of the Midterm Exam, Practical Exam and Final Exam. The lab report average was normalized to 80% for the section with the highest combined average of the Midterm Exam, Practical Exam and Final Exam. All other sections were fitted to the resulting curve according to their combined exam average.

Normalized Lab Reports Curve

Last Updated: 12/9/2009
Below is the
approximate curve for the normalized lab reports. Each section is normalized to a 70% average during the semester. If you would like to know your normalized lab report score, see me during office hours. You may also estimate your normalized score by determining the difference between your TA's average from 70% and then adding that difference to your score. For example, if my lab report average was 54% and my TA's section average was 65%, I would add 5% (70-65=5) to my average. My estimated normalized score would be 59% (54+5=59).

Midterm Exam Curve

Below is the approximate curve for the midterm exam. Because the final course score is the sum of the individual component scores and not an average of letter grades, the curve below is only approximate. Only the final course is technically curved.
