Following the trail blazed by Firefox last year, we plan to post an advertisement for OpenOffice.org in the free daily newspaper "Metro" in New York City. We qualify for non-profit prices and can therefore get a lot of bang for the buck. Each weekday, 330,000 free copies of Metro are distributed to commuters in the five boroughs. Roughly 450,000 people read it, and they represent a young, affluent and savvy demographic.
- Discussion is carried out in the OpenOffice Ads Action Google Group.
- Collection was completed successfully, and the ad ran on Monday, July 31. You can download a PDF of the Metro issue, and see the ad on the back page. (Click on July 31 in the calendar, then press the "Get Your Metro" button, and it'll download for you.)
- You can still donate directly to OpenOffice.org.
Advertisement Design
The ad will provide a link to the OpenOffice.org homepage at www.openoffice.org, and will explain that all platforms' users can freely download the software from there.
To the right, you'll see our team's ad design. Your comments and feedback are requested and encouraged (for future projects). Please submit them to the Google Group mentioned above so that all interested volunteers can participate in the discussion.
Download the Ad
Download the ad for use in your own projects. The ad is licensed under a Creative Commons BY-SA license. (Please mention Benjamin Horst and John Kakoulides as the creators of the ad on your website. Thanks!) The downloads are huge because they're very high resolution.
