A friend gave me a worn woodturning lathe which I used until I realized I was allergic to sawdust! Since I really like lathe work, I decided to convert the lathe on hand to a metal-turning one. First I added a speed reducer. Next, a search of the scrapyards turned up a partly broken rotary table. It didn’t take long to see that the parts would allow me to add a nice dovetailed cross slide and supports to my lathe. This gave me a good 40-tooth wormgear and wheel set for later use. Also the table was in good shape -- I stored it for years before giving it to a friend who needed one. I added a lead screw and was in business. The photos show my new toy.
