Shaper Slitting Saw

Using an idea shown in James Early’s collection, with a few changes to make use of the material on hand, I built this handy slitting saw for use with my Gingery shaper. The photos show several views of the tool in use. They show enough information for you to build your own. The block is a piece of aluminum with a slit to suit and two button-head screws to fit. The front of the saw is tilted up slightly.

I use the tool for making collars etc. For example, you can turn a bronze bearing into a split bushing. This works well for sizing an existing collet to fit a smaller diameter workpiece.
