Kids Say...

The future of Burlington, IA is bright

BURLINGTON, IA - We've been in residence at Corse Elementary School in Burlington yesterday and today. It's a quaint community on the Mississippi River, featuring streets lined with nice homes and magnificent trees. The schedule we've had here has been kind. We have done two workshops in the mornings, with just one performance of Pigs in the afternoon.

During a workshop this morning with 5th graders, we came to the part when we ask the kids how they would change the plot of The Three Little Pigs. This is usually the part when kids say things like, "The pigs want to chase the wolf," or, "The wolf gets to eat the pigs." We got those responses again today, but one little girl had other ideas.

"The pig and the wolf are brother and sister," she started. "That's because their eggs..." At that point, she paused, apparently considered the possible complications of the idea she was about to put forth, and then reconsidered. "No," she said. "No, not at all. The wolf is adopted, and they're brother and sister."
