| See letter from Hibernia Hughes to Sarah Miller, 1/27/1833:"I presume you have heard of the death of cousin Jane Price, Cousin Stephen Miller, and Cousin Robert. They all died since I came home, Cousin Jane died with twelve hours sickness, and left two little children and Mr. Price has taken them to his fathers, and Mother has taken Uncle Joseph's two little daughters, Rebecca, and Zilpah.." Hibernia Hughes to Susan Miller 3 Jun 1834: "We have not heard from Rebecca and Zilpah since the boys took them away. I wrote to Bob about three weeks since, but have received no answer. " Joseph A. Miller to Susan Miller 6 May 1836:"Myself & brother & sisters are all well at preasant & all other connections as far as I know. We are all living at home together. Robert & myself have sold out our merchantile establishment at Lloyd's Mill. Robert was married last month to Miss Narcissa Cheek. Ezekiel & Zilpah is going to school. George has returned from colledge Kentucky & is overseeing for us. Rebecca is at home & has grown up to a woman size. Zilp. is as small as ever. I suppose you heard that Hibemia & Ham. MacKy was married last fall. I am not married as yet. " Rebecca B. Ballard to Susan Miller 20 Sep 1836: "Brother Robert is maried of which you have herd, I supose. He married a Miss Cheek. You saw her at Mr. Vaughns when you was out here. Him and Joseph are living together. George is overseeing for them. Brother Ezekiel and Zilpah has ben going to School all the year untill the sickley season "ame on. Thare teacher was taken sick and has never ben able to teach any more. Zilpah has had a very severe spell of the fever but has got better. Ezekiel has had the Chill and fever but is a little better. " Margaret Miller Vaughn to Susan Miller 4 Jul 1838:"My brothers are all alive except brother A. He has bin dead three years the 7 day of last January. Joseph and Robert lives together. George and Ezekiel H. are out of business at this time and E. is staying with me. Zilpah is going to School. Rebecca was to see me the other day. She is in very good health at this time. She has no Child. Zilpah is smal but very healthy. " Zilpah Miller to Susan Miller, 8 Nov 1838:"I am living with Brother Robert and Joseph now and have bin for the two last years. Myselph and Martha Vaughn are going to school to a lady in Gallatin and have bin going all the summer. Our Examination comes about the first of Dec., which will bee the end of the session. We are studing Grammar, Gorgraphy, Philosophy, Rhetoric, Chemistry, Dictionary, etc. " Zilpah McGinty to Robert A. Miller, 31 Dec 1838: "You wished me to write how we spent the Christmas. I will begin by saying that on Saturday the 22nd of Dec. old Lankashire and his three daughters came and on Christmas day, George and Ezekiel and Zilpah Miller and Miss Martha Vaughn came and the day after Mr. P. Price and Edwin and in the evening Miss Wells and her brother and Murry. Mr. Price played the fiddle and they all danced until bed time, nearly all day the next day and when they were not dancing, they were running back and forth from here to Philips. Martha Vaughn is almost as wild as Angelina. ... Zilpah seems to think she cannot go to Pontotoc. George has not got in to any business yet, they went home yesterday." Zilpah McGinty to Susan Miller, 18 Jun 1843: "The Copiahans are all well, I don't know if they have written to you that Zilpah was married some six weeks ago to a Dr. Kennedy we never heard of him before, and only saw the marriage announce in a newspaper. " This letter indicates the year of Zilpah and Samuel Kennedy's marriage was 1843 not 1845. Zilpah McGinty to Susan Miller, 7 May 1848: "Zilpah lives near Dickson Louisiana and has two children the last one a girl. I do not know her reason for not writing. She does not write to me any more." Zilpah McGinty to Susan Miller, 13 December 1851: "...oon after that I heard that Zilpah was in wretched health & went up to Coopers Well took one of her children with her & left two at home with the Dr. & one of them was taken sick & died soon after she got home or before I forgot which. I need to write to Zilpah but she quit answering my letter & I quit writing..." Zilpah McGinty to Susan Miller, 13 Dec 1861: "I have not heard of Rebecca since early in the spring. She told Alzade that she was coming to see Mother, but she did not come, & soon after that I heard that Zilpah was in wretched health & went up to Coopers Well took one of her children with her & left two at home with the Dr. & one of them was taken sick & died soon after she got home or before I forgot which." Zilpah McGinty to Susan Miller, 29 apr 1867: "Zilpah lives with Robert on the river. Her ugly husband Dr. Kennedy is married again. Her son is also married." | ||||||||||||
