| "Land Grants (1784-1788) in Abbeville County," a collection of clippings from an unknown newspaper located in the Memphis TN Public Library and donated by Rev. E. M. Sharpe: see Vol II, page 10 from series of two volumes in Abbeville Judge of Probate Office: "Andrew Miller as a citizen 150 acres, situate below the line on waters of Parkes Creek, a branch of Little River Bounding et. on land belonging to Genl. Williamson & vacant land, the other sides on vacant land when surveyed by John Bowie D.S. on 26th day of Feby last. Recorded this 13th day of June 1785. Robert Anderson, C.L." In the 1790 census of Ninety Six District, Abbeville County, Andrew Miller is listed as head of family, with his wife and a child less than 16. See Estate of Andrew Miller Box 64 Pack. 1520 Abbeville Courthouse SC 1802 Administrators of Estate were Ebenezer Miller, Joseph Miller and Andrew Bowie. Elizabeth Miller wife of Andrew Miller relinquished her right of adminstration to Ebenezer Miller 5 Oct 1802. Estate was opened on 6 Oct 1802 and settled on 6 Oct 1818. At time of settlement the legatees were Robert Miller, John S. Miller, Jane S. or L. Miller and Margaret Miller. See Lee Corley Hendrix family group sheet. "Andrew Miller probably died shortly before the [1800] Abbeville County SC Census was taken as Elizabeth Miller is listed alone. If he left his wife a life's estate unless she remarried, this would account for the estate not being probated until 1802. It was at this time that Elizabeth (Defour) Miller was contemplating marriage with William Hadden and the Administration went to Ebenezer Miller, her brother-in law." See letter from Felix Hughes, Natchez, Coles Creek to Ebenezer Miller dated 27 Mar 1798: "We [he and Robert Miller Jr. from whose home the letter was obviously written] desire to assure you and Brother Andrew that he will use his uttmost endeavours to secure some Lands for you all, but as there is no move as yet ___of Spaniards being still in possession of the Country, tho' daily expected to move off. ... If Joseph was in this Country now he would be the means of assuredly getting some land...He [Robert] also hoped Andy will be in readiness to take a Trip with him back to this Country." See letter from Robert Miller to Jean Miller dated 6 Oct 1799: "I beg you will give my Compliments to Brother Andrew and tell him I am much surprised that he never wrote to inform me how he got home, as I have had no account from him since he left here. I beg he will let me know how he got home. Please to present my respects to his wife, also to Brother Simmons and his wife" Letter from Felix Hughes to Ebenezer Miller, 7 April 1800:'I was in great hopes that Mr. Gaskin who went from hence last October would have returned with Letters from you before now, but he is not arrived as yet. We received the melancholy news of Brother Andrew's Death some short Time after Gaskin set off, in a Letter from Mr. Geo. Reid. We had some faint hope that Mr. Reid might have gotten wrong Intelligence, but alas your Letters confirmed the doleful Tidings. It was some small comfort to us that he got home and breathed his last in the Embraces of his friends. Death is a Debt that must be paid, sooner or later, and happy is the person who is prepared to answer the Summons. I hope Sister Betser bears her Loss with resignation. The poor little Children do not feel it, and I trust they will always find Helpers and protectors among their surviving Uncles." This letter would date Andrew's death in late 1799. See letter from Felix and Margaret Hughes to Jean Miller 11 Apr 1800:"The only thing which engrossed our private Concerns here is the Death of Brother Andy. This was a heavy Stroke of Divine Providence in the family, and tho' it may be felt more grievously by some than others, yet I trust you are all so far furnished with a Stock of Christian Fortitude as to enable you to bear it patiently and with resignation to the Divine Will.
