| Misc. Notes |
Erskine was ruling elder of Harmony Church.
Erskine and his brother Robert farmed, and later divided, Ebenezer Miller'sl plantation five miles east of Pontotoc.
The 1850 population census shows his property valued at $2,700 and since the slave census shows E. Erskine with 26 slaves, virtually all of the property was reflected in the value of the slaves. The 1860 census indicates that Erskine had 32 slaves and land valued at $9000. 1860 census showed six nonfamily members boarding, at least one of whom was wealthy. Erskine died unexpectedly at home in January 1862. |
