| Killed another student with his pocket knife in 1844 while attending college preparatory school in near Abbeville, S. C. His brothers Hugh and Andrew rode to Abbeville to assist in his trial. He was eventually pardoned. Letter in possession of Miller family indicates Samuel died in New Haven, Connecticut, in December 1845 while preparing to undertake studies to try to enter Yale.82 | ||||||||||||
