October is my new favorite month

Today was one of those perfect fall days--not a cloud, sky blue and clear, temperature crisp but not too cold, the marshgrass turning gold, the sweetgrass blooming in amazing pink and purple iridescence, and basically nothing in the world to do. Last night we went over to a great beachhouse where some of our very dear friends from out of own are staying for a fun party. Most of us ended up spending the night (Will's parents were heroes and kept the guys overnight) and it was so nice to wake up to the calm ocean, friends sipping coffee on the sofa, and the promise of brunch on the horizon. After just Will and I had a very nice brunch we went to pick up the guys and lo and behold they'd been good the whole time! There is no sweeter sound to a parent than hearing their child has been good and fun to be around. The parent knows this is not always the case and so the good news is all the more savored. The guys were obviously tired but we couldn't bear to take them home for naps yet on such a gorgeous day, so we went to the park. There were several families there but for some reason not much chaos and everything was quiet. John went down the fast slide several times and climbed up the rope ladder. James played on the big pirate ship and called out, "Blow the man down!" George ran all over the place spreading the joy of the green goop coming out of his nose. He pulled me over to the shuffleboard deck so we could "race" but even when I stood still he wouldn't pass me. Anyway, we had a wonderful time and when it was time to go we put the sticks down so we could "find them next time" and got in the car with no argument.

Once we got home we fed them a quick lunch and put them down for a nap. John said he was tired and James actually went into his room, turned out the light, and crawled into bed without a word. They slept for hours and in that time Will and I managed to get a nap, too. Then tonight John T-T'd on the potty. Literally ON the potty and his arm. I don't think any got IN the potty but he was at least sitting on it when "It curted, Momoe!" ("squirted"). I even fit in a little Project Runway Rerun and some reading on how to maximize your brainpower. At least by reading it I'm admitting there's a problem... So overall truly truly my idea of the perfect day.

As the boys continue to grow--looking at the pictures we took today at the park I am blown away by how their looks are changing--they continue to expand their vocabulary if not their understanding...

George: "Let me ask you a question, Momoe." But then when I ask him, " What?" he looks at me like I'm crazy.

John on Kermit the Frog: "He's the best muppet in the world."

As overheard by one of the teachers at school (Miss Jann is one of the teachers), James to a little girl who wanted to play with his favorite toy crane after giving several unheeded reasons why he should have it and not her: "Miss Jann is calling you."

All three boys in the car thinking they are saying something really clever (think "I Like Big Butts" from Shark Tale) and laughing hysterically like they are so funny: "Big bus! Big bus! Big bus!"

Mr. Bigshot-still-wearing-diapers George when we passed a woman changing a baby's diaper in the back of their car: "That's gwoss!"

Will watching a football game on TV: "Ugh! He dropped the football!"
George: "Dropped the football--that's not good!"

George watching The Great Muppet Caper and pointing to one of the female jewel thieves: "That's the naughty lady."

And my personal favorite. As we walked outside yesterday morning, Me: "It's chilly outside."
George: "No, Momoe, Chile is far away!"

And there you have it. The perfect day, the pitfalls of an early geography lesson, and a very happy very blessed Mama. I will try to write more this week. I've been ignoring almost everything these last couple of weeks because I have been very busy doing very important work such as drinking coffee and reading books on the porch and making playlists on the computer of marching songs for James to march to. He wants to play guitar in the marching band one day so I've got to do my part...
