Tomasina Paine's Second Thoughts about POD I

June 9, 2005

Oh Lennar - Is it too late to put up the three 5-story buildings? I am afraid we were stampeded into trading 3 elegant, expensive buildings for 5 or 6 strips of townhouses which, for the life of me, I cannot visualize fitting onto that small plot of land in Pod I.

I do not believe that this is actually going to enhance the value of our Baywinds homes in the long run and I think we acted in haste. The first fallout from this poor choice is the fact that in one cove, they have already been alerted that the Master fees are going up 14% right after transition (at the end of June), due to the smaller number of units being built on Pod I. This will occur in all the neighborhoods. 14% is no small number and it is ONLY the beginning.

I can understand Lighthouse Point's initial reaction to the 5 story buildings. But upon further reflection, wouldn't the three 5-story buildings, with beautiful landscaping and space, have been far more appealing than the current 3 story apartment complex of Mazzano surrounded by black chainlink fencing and the crowded townhouses that are going to be crammed on to that piece of land?

People, I think we made a big mistake. I am wondering if it is not too late to reverse this and go back to the original plans.

Our leadership at the time seemed to take the path of least resistance. The loud, uproarious meetings led the way and led the leaders. Any alternative suggestions and thoughts were shouted down. Now we are all going to pay the price.
