The End of the Long and Winding Road
During my 11+ years at Apple, I've seen many
people come and go. When they go, it's usually as a result of one of Apple's
fabled and infamous "reorgs," when they find that the position they held within
the company no longer exists. I always figured that if and when I was to leave
the company, I would probably go in the same way...and I was right.
Today Apple laid me off as part of a "Business
Termination." What exactly does that mean? Well as it was explained to me, Apple
constantly reorganizes its resources to fund new projects like iTunes, iPhoto,
and so on. Now that Panther is complete, Apple is shuffling resources again.
When my department was informed that it was losing resources that were being
allocated in another part of the company, I drew the short straw. It was a
shock, but certainly nothing I haven't seen
before.I have nothing to complain
about. I had a very long run at Apple, and to paraphrase the Cuban baseball
player character from the old Saturday Night Live episodes, "Apple been very,
very good to me!" I wish them the best of luck as they continue to find success
in this Windows-centric world -- a fact that has become painfully obvious as I
look at job listings on the
web!Luckily I already had a few brands
in the fire because I haven't been happy in my current position for quite some
time. So while I'm currently unemployed (a strange sensation after nearly 12
years of solid employment), I'm already interviewing and my unemployed status
will hopefully be a very temporary situation. That said, however, I'm not taking
any chances; I'm posting a downloadable PDF version of my resume below. If you
know of any opening for an Apple technology expert, with a dash of Wintel
experience, please pass it along.
Thanks!
