Mon - September 11, 20069/11: Five Years Later and the U.S. is Still in DistressA few days ago I received an email from a friend.
It was one of those,
let's-do-something-totally-symbolic-that-will-make-us-feel-good-but-have-absolutely-no-impact,
messages that people like to send around during holidays and other
not-so-festive occasions like the five year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on
New York and Washington D.C. This message urged everyone, on 9/11/2006, to make
a statement. A perfectly safe, non-threatening statement that will let your
family, friends, and neighbors stay blissfully in their Faux News bubble,
oblivious to the fact that the U.S. democracy is being highjacked just like
those airliners on 9/11/2001. Here's the forwarded text of the message along
with the little animated GIF flag that accompanied it:

in-tune it is to the sensitivities of American "lore." Their shiny new press
secretary, the ex-spin-doc from Faux News, Tony Snow, used the term "hug the tar
baby" while speaking at a press briefing yesterday. After a round of
nervous laughter from the gathered correspondents, one reporter asked Snowjob to
clarify his use of the term.

live. An important job long held and performed diligently by humanity's best
four-legged friend, the beloved canine, is being outsourced...to
rats.
Posted at 09:48 AM Read More Wed - March 22, 2006Freedom of Religion = Freedom to ChooseI'm really sick and tired of the debate over
abortion. Even without the argument that women's bodies should not be property
of the state, it's clear that a woman's right to choose is guaranteed by the
Constitution of the United States. This means that the anti-abortion "laws"
passed recently in South Dakota and Missippi are in violation of the
Constitution, and therefore illegal. Furthermore, anyone who advocates putting
a woman's reproductive system under state control is advocating the overthrow
of Constituional law and so, as the Neo-Cons are fond of saying, that person is
"un-American." and "unpatriotic."

the new year, and with each passing day I find myself closer and closer to
becoming one of those old geezers who always bugged the crap out of me. You know
the ones: things were so much better in
the old days! I've always thought of myself as
someone who looks forward to the future and embraces change, but 2005 seems to
have brought with it a bigger heaping helping of nostalgia than any past new
year in recent memory.
Posted at 12:50 PM Read More Wed - December 8, 2004Quote of the Day...War: Just Deal With It"Why do we soldiers have to dig through local landfills for pieces of scrap metal and compromised ballistic glass to up-armor our vehicles?"-- Spc. Thomas Wilson, addressing Defense Secretary Rumsfeld during meeting with the troops at Camp Buehring, Kuwait, 12/8/2004 "You go to war with the Army you have, not the Army you might want or wish to have."-- Defense Secretary Donald H. Runsfeld, responding to Spc. Wilson's question, Camp Buehring, Kuwait, 12/8/2004 Normally I don't comment on daily quotes, preferring instead to let them stand on their own. In this case, however, I just have to point out that Rumsfeld's pat response to the concerns of our troops in harm's way is so typical of the attitude of the entire Bush administration, that it certainly does lend credence to Bush's campaign assertions that he and his administration are "consistent!" Posted at 02:14 PM Read More Thu - November 18, 2004The Return of SCAB?In my last entry I said that Bush was
finally
elected fair and square, and that he now has a
mandate of the people. As it turns out, Bush's victory was by the slimmest
margin since they began keeping track of those statistics, so if he does end up
having a mandate, it's going to be a miniscule one! But continuing analysis of
this election may prove that he once again has
no
mandate, and that he once again stole the election!
Posted at 08:44 AM Read More Thu - November 4, 2004ConcessionThrough the entire Presidential campaign, my
mantra was, "you can't believe the polls." Over the past few days, however, I
admit that I let my hopeful optimism get the most of me and began listening to
the polls about how well the Kerry campaign was doing. I actually had hope that
Bush could be defeated. And he almost was defeated. The Right is now busy
crowing over the fact that Mr. Bush -- I'll no longer call him "SCAB," since he
is now rightfully elected to the Presidency -- received the most votes of any
U.S. presidential candidate in history. What they forget to point out, is that
so did John Kerry. It's testament of the huge turn-out of U.S. voters, not
necessarily a testament to the popularity of the candidates. So now that Mr.
Bush is our legally elected President, what does that mean for the
U.S.?
Posted at 02:58 AM Read More Mon - November 1, 2004Crooked 'Til The EndHere it is the eve of the most important
presidential election in recent history; certainly in my lifetime. Someone with
any common sense would think that the incumbent candidate would be walking the
straight-and-narrorw, keeping everything on the up-and-up so as not to give his
opponents any further ammunition with which to engineer his defeat. This
incumbent however, as I've often said, has no common sense. He possesses only
arrogance and flagrant disregard for the workings of a fair democracy. On the
eve of his possible re-election or defeat, the SCAB (Supreme Court Appointed
Bush), is up to his same old dirty tricks, and so I find myself either writing a
final rant against this crook who stole the office of U.S. President in 2000, or
at the beginning a new four-year series. So what has the SCAB done now to once
again fan the flames of lefties like me? Why, nothing less than to "let fly the
dogs of IRS" on the NAACP!

"disingenuous filmmaker" at the Republican National Convention in New York last
week is at it again. This time he's showing his disingenuous colors by pulling
Fahrenheit
9/11, the highest grossing film in documentary
history, from the Oscar race for best documentary.

Convention this week and have been quite amazed by what I've seen. It's really
like no Democratic Convention I've ever seen. There's a
sense of
urgency at this DNC that I can't recall ever
seeing in the past. I've been saying since 2000 that this country is now in
serious trouble, and it looks like the Democrats have finally realized this too.
There have been a lot of great speeches so far at the DNC, here are some of what
I consider the highlights....

Yeah, I'm pretty sick of it too. But a local Bay Area radio station put one of

Posted at 10:21 PM Read More Psychopaths at Work (and the White House...)I've always found it difficult to fathom how
corporate managers are so often able to treat people as they do and still manage
to sleep at night. I mean, to be able to tell someone who's been a loyal,
hard-working employee for many years, that their job is now being shipped to
India and they're being laid off, takes something . . what? True grit? Solid
self assurance? Maybe, but according to a new, upcoming book, it's probably just
an unhealthy helping of good old-fashioned
psychopathy!
