Colophon” & Credits

The Colophon—a brief description, usually located at the end of a book, describing production notes relevant to the edition.

Typography

The site was designed to provide clear and easily-read long text content with code examples. Blueprint CSS was used with a few alterations for the typography. Headings are set in Constantia, Palatino Linotype, Palatino, Georgia, Times New Roman or Times. Body text is set in Frutiger, Univers, Helvetica Neue, Lucida Grande, Calibri, Helvetica or Verdana. Code examples, terminal commands and URLs will be set in Consolas, Bitstream Vera Sans Mono, Courier New, Monaco or Courier.

Software

The site is written and managed in RapidWeaver from Realmac Software. Rapidweaver is an easy to use desktop application for Macintosh for creating small web sites and works very well when offline—handy when most of the articles are written on a train.

Illustrations are normally drawn in OmniGraffle or Adobe Illustrator CS3 and later processed in Adobe Photoshop CS3. Illustrator, Photoshop, CSSEdit and TextMate are used to produce the template that RapidWeaver uses to produce the pages.

Hosting

The site is hosted as part of the .Mac, soon to be Mobile Me, services package. After a day spent working, and sometimes struggling, with web applications I don't want to spend more time fiddling with shared hosting peculiarities. RapidWeaver and .Mac work very well together and I was also intrigued to see what was possible with basic building blocks.
